A Possible Solution to End the Ukraine Conflict
Posted on 03 Feb 2023; 09:00 PM IST. Last Updated 03 Feb 2023; 09:00 PM IST.Summary: This article provides a possible solution to end the Ukraine conflict.
Ukraine consists of 24 oblasts, and from a historical perspective some of these oblasts are totally Russian, and some are partially Russian (shared with Ukraine), and a few belong to the Austria-Hungary Empire.
Although President Zelensky claims that Ukraine belongs to Poland, this is a very far-fetched idea, and has no historical support. Poles (or people of Polish origin) did live in Ukraine, and did rule the Western parts of Ukraine, for some time. Based on history, it may become evident that “Poles did not establish any Kingdom or Empire in Ukraine”. The Poles conquered the Western Ukraine several times, and ruled it (existing kingdoms) for hundreds of years. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, who were good friends at the beginning of World War – II, got back Ukraine from Poland.
The author feels that President Biden made a grave mistake on Ukraine, and recreated a Word War – II scenario, which was resolved earlier (in early 1900’s), by expending a river of blood. The author feels that it is absolutely necessary to end this conflict, as early as possible, before it begins to threaten the whole of Europe.
A possible solution to end the Ukraine conflict, is provided below, which could serve as a template for discussions. Since this is a very touchy subject, the readers are requested to read the whole article, with ample consideration to the history of Ukraine, before jumping to conclusions.
Russian Oblasts
As part of the solution, the following oblasts of current Ukraine would go back to Russia.
Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and the autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Reason: Owing to history, all these oblasts were originally Russian.
Novo Ukraine Oblasts
As part of the solution, the following oblasts of current Ukraine would be considered as “Novo Ukraine”, and will remain as an autonomous province of Russia.
Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy.
Novo Ukraine, cannot have military on its own, but can collect taxes, and will possess administrative autonomy. Russian military will operate in Novo Ukraine, and Russia will receive a small percentage of taxes, to maintain the military. In essence, Novo Ukraine could appear almost similar to Ukraine under Soviet Union.
Reason: Owing to history, some of these oblasts were shared by Ukraine and Russia.
Moskva Free Economic and Trade Zone (MOSFET-Z) Oblasts
As part of the solution, the following oblasts of current Ukraine would be considered as Moskva Free Economic and Trade Zone (abbreviated as MOSFET-Z).
Lviv, Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia.
The name MOSFET-Z is considered appropriate (even though it sounds like a semiconductor), since this region is sandwiched between Eastern and Western Europe, like the junction region in a semiconductor.
MOSFET-Z will be free of any military, and will be policed jointly by Russia, and EU. The land will be used only for economic activity, and 50% will be shared equally between EU and Russia. The remaining 50% will be left floating for the use of EU and Russia (only for economic activity), on first come first serve basis. It may be noted that EU could act as an arbitrator between Novo Ukraine and the adjoining EU countries.
Reason: Owing to history, these oblasts were shared by Ukraine, Russia, and many adjoining EU countries.
Conclusion
The solution attempted to ensure fairness to all parties, by balancing cash (taxes), or land.
Remarks
The solution partially fulfills the dream of Ukraine joining EU. The demands of Russia, that there should not be a big military in Ukraine, would be fully satisfied, by this approach. In addition, MOSFET-Z could bring huge economic rewards for Novo Ukraine, Russia, and for the adjoining EU countries.
